Had dinner here with Bill before a concert. All was nice, food and service.

Wednesday, 3-December-14

We had dinner here before a concert. Serving traditional cuisine with Limousin meat, this is not a place for vegetarians, but if you'll have a bit of meat, it was very yummy and the service was excellent. We had the standard three-course menus for €19.40 each. Very nice house wine (Bergerac, perhaps). We both started with salads with grilled cabecous on toasts. For the main, Ed had what was essentially steak-frites, but the steak was outstanding, served already sliced, with a big bowl of frites (in allumettes or matches). I had the plat du jour, must have been left from lunch, but that was ok. It was jarret de bouef or veau (he couldn't make up his mind). This is usually of pork, in my experience, but was delicious anyhow. (Google thinks jarret is hock; I have no idea.) Ed had a nice créme brulée for dessert while I had chocolate liégeois, which turned out to be a ball of chocolate ice cream, topped with hot chocolate, and then some whipped cream. (Apparently café liégeois is the "real" thing—coffee-flavored ice cream, sweetened coffee, and whipped cream.) We could manage dessert only because the service was lickety-split; we usually only have two courses before a concert. Ed had a café créme for dessert and said it was excellent. All in all a very nice dinner. We'd definitely come back here again.
