A Groupon lunch. Sat upstairs inside, very attractive, nice view. The menu is fun to read. The food imaginative, but not always successful. The service was a bit disorganized. I asked for a small pichet of wine and got a big one. Ed was served my main and I got his. Good food, but not super.

Lunched here with Peg and Jim after they walked a bit of the St Jacques de Compostela way (backwards, from Solignac to Limoges). The menu du jour could be ordered served all at once or in proper courses (for a bit more money). That's the first time I've seen that option at a restaurant. Ed had a hamburger, while the rest of us had the menu, starting with a lovely plate of melon slices, piled in a cylinder, sitting on slices of coppa, and topped with a toefje salad. P&J had steaks for their main, while I had a big salad with curried chicken. Nifty desserts, Jim had crème brulée served in four little portions. I had a cheesecake thing that was delicious.

Thursday, 11-June-15

We had a Groupon coupon for a dinner here, and very nice it was. Situated right on the Vienne next to the Pont Saint-Étienne, built in 1203. There was a choice of about six starters, mains, and desserts, mostly quite imaginative, or at least imaginatively described. For starters, Ed had a tartelette with avocado and other veg; I had gravlax, with bits of tapenade and other stuff artfully arranged. For a main, Ed had "from the butcher", a steak; I had a magret de canard sangria-style. (Ravioli in a thai-flavored soup was my second choice.) For dessert, Ed had a strawberry ravioli thing, which was neat -- an open ravioli, dessert-plate size, maybe cream and gelatin; with strawberries and a scoop of strawberry?-mint ice cream on top that didn't work for either of us. I had a yummy "soup" of red berries.
